Oliver Yates has today announced that if elected, he will work to ensure all community sporting organisations across Kooyong have modern and equal facilities for men and women.
Mr Yates said that during the campaign, he has met with a number of sporting organisations who have been traditionally under-funded relative to the size and reach and of their organisations, and the benefits these clubs provide the community.
“Today I announce that, if elected, that I will work to ensure that the Wyclif Cricket Club is able to get the $1.5M they need to rebuild their facilities to support men and women’s sporting teams. Wyclif have helped spearhead women's cricket in this electorate with their women's cricket program that commenced in 2017."
“The one thing you can guarantee is that if I am elected, I will work to ensure that the Wycliffe Cricket Club, and all other sporting facilities, get the finances they need to properly support all people in our community.
“The Liberals have taken this seat for granted,. They have paid scant attention to this electorate and done very little for this community until it became a tight race in this election.
“If the local community wants real representation in parliament, not someone just concerned with their own career, then they need to make this seat marginal by voting for an independent. That will be the wake-up call that the Liberal party deserves.
“My kids have played sport here growing up, and I have observed for myself that many facilities are overdue for an upgrade.
“Sport is a critically important part of growing the strength and health of our communities.
“Women’s cricket and AFLW are exploding in popularity, and while the local member has been too focused on his own wellbeing, this community has been left behind,” said Mr Yates.
