You are stuck in traffic because this government has neglected to plan and budget for infrastructure investment ahead of significant immigration. We need to have a coordinated plan that ensures we complete projects for public transport, roads and social infrastructure ahead of population growth.
With more front than Myers, Josh Frydenberg is now telling people he would be investing billions of dollars in infrastructure to reduce congestion. But it’s playing ‘catch up’ and it’s all on the ‘never never’. Most of it would be spent after the next two elections. Despite years of delay, he is still failing to act. He’s making everyone wait, just so he can claim we will have a budget surplus.
Oliver Yates, Independent candidate for the seat of Kooyong, said the funding needs to be brought forward because people need congestion relief now.
Revelations in today’s news, show that despite the government promising to spend big on infrastructure, the money won’t be delivered for years, with some requiring the Coalition to be re-elected twice.
“People in Kooyong are sick of being stuck in traffic. They are sick of false promises to fix the problem.
“The government says it is going to spend billions of dollars on transport infrastructure, but they’re pushing off the expenditure to future years, just so that they can say they will have a budget surplus.
“Ninety percent of the promised funding won’t be spent until after 2023.
“Victorians were promised $6 billion in the budget for road and rail extensions. But they will have a four-year wait before 70 per cent of the funding starts to be rolled out. There’s no integrity in false promises.
“This is exactly what it looks like when you put spin over substance, propaganda over real action.
“Once again, we can see the Treasurer, Josh Frydenberg making massive promises and delivering nothing but frustration as people sit in traffic queues. Nothing but dishonesty and disappointment. It’s the same on climate change, job numbers or the deception around the budget.
“Unfortunately the continual stream of lies will continue throughout the election. But false promises and deception are deeply corrosive to our politics. I am finding that people have lost confidence in our nation’s leadership and have absolutely no trust in the information people are receiving from our political parties.
“There’s no infrastructure spending, no action on climate change and no integrity in this government, despite the lies being peddled by our Treasurer.
“Inner city Melbourne needs this money to be urgently spent on congestion-alleviating infrastructure now. The money must be brought forward. Everyone in Australia deserves some basic honesty. Sitting in traffic queues is a fundamental waste of productivity and no quality of life.
“But these Liberals will just say anything to try and win votes”, said Mr Yates. “The commuters of Kooyong have had enough.”
