The Liberals are screwing young people and they won't stand for it any more
Young people and their future prospects have been made more expensive, more difficult, less certain and less safe under the Liberal Party. The Libs are wrecking their future and young people won’t stand for it any more.
Oliver Yates, Independent Candidate for Kooyong and father of three adult children, said the failure of the Liberal Party to control the growing national debt, address climate change, or do anything about the spiralling costs of living, means they are leaving our young people a very bleak future. It is simply becoming more and more difficult for young people to find secure work and pay off their personal debts, let alone buy their first home or even have confidence in the future of our planet.
“Australia’s national debt has doubled under this Government. It’s predicted to be $629 billion by the end of this financial year. That’s a huge amount of debt burden that’s being handed on to future generations.
“Young people are very aware that we have a choice between keeping the Great Barrier Reef alive, or continuing to back the coal industry that is causing dangerous climate change. The Government has chosen the coal industry, putting the environment and every industry in Australia at risk, from the tourism industry in Queensland to the wine industry in South Australia.
“Because the Government has privatised so many of our public services, young people can only expect more expensive essential services throughout their lives. With so many young people unable to get the work they need to earn a decent living wage, there’s an increasing number of young people staying at home and not able to participate in the economy. They deserve the dignity of work.
“Young people have become so disenchanted with the squabbling and bickering amongst the major political parties. They are all ignoring the issues affecting our next generation. They are fed up with the lack of leadership, the chaos, disfunction and partisanship of Australian politics. From a lack of integrity and incompetence, this Government has saddled our next generation with environmental degradation, increasing carbon emissions, bleak employment prospects and a massive debt burden.
“I am finding that young people won’t stand for it any more. They are yearning for and enthusiastic about a new type of politics. They simply don’t understand why the Liberal Party is addicted to coal and its devastating impact on climate change. They want leadership, vision and policies that will provide them with a better future.
“I urge the young people of Kooyong to talk to their parents about the importance of this election to ensure that they understand what’s at stake and what I can offer as fresh voice in Canberra.” said Mr Yates.
