This Government with no integrity finally puts Australia out of its misery and calls election.
Oliver Yates, Independent candidate for Kooyong, has today welcomed the Government’s decision to finally call the election, saying Australia is crying out for integrity and leadership in Government.
Mr Yates, who is running against the Treasurer in the Federal seat of Kooyong, said today’s announcement is overdue because people are absolutely fed up with the Liberal party.
“This Liberal Government has been operating without integrity for too long.
“They’ve failed to address the challenges we face as a nation, preferring to back in their big donors and protect their own careers. This is why they’ve failed to act on climate change, preferring to put the interests of the coal industry above the environment and every other industry in Australia.
“Australia deserves better than these entitled, self-serving, bullies who have sacrificed the future of our country for their own careers.
“They’ve failed to address climate change, failed to address inequality, failed to build the infrastructure our growing population needs. Australia deserves better.
“Even at five minutes before midnight, the Government were still appointing their mates into plum government Board positions, and slathering out the taxpayer funded advertising.
“Earlier this week as the election loomed, they had the appalling audacity to approve the Adani coal mine moving forward, just to appease their right wing Coalition colleagues in Queensland marginal seats and pressure from big donors. No integrity there.
“In Kooyong, we’ve seen lies mailed out by the Liberal party to cover up their dismal performance in addressing climate change. I warn the electorate, there will be more lies to come in this campaign, as the Treasurer is fighting for his life, and he puts his career above all else.
“People in Kooyong have been taken for granted by the Liberal party, who has simply used them as an ATM. The people of Kooyong sick of being disregarded and demanding proper representation.
“I am excited by the prospect of a campaign to give Kooyong a real voice in our Parliament.
“Winning in this seat is a tough ask, but unless we have leadership with integrity, we will continue to allow the interests of donors and Liberal party mates to be put first, and everyone else to come second”, said Mr Yates.
